  • Diet high in saturated fat
  • Diet high in sodium (salt)
  • Unhealthy BMI
  • Physical inactivity
  • Smoking
  • Stress, anger, hostility
  • Diabetes
  • Age – arteriosclerosis
  • Family history
Complications:
  • Stroke
  • Heart attack
  • Hardening of the arteries
  • Heart failure
  • Kidney failure
  • Eye damage
  • Peripheral vascular disease  (poor circulation)
